Performance predictions for the upgrading of a VAX-cluster
During the last two decades many interesting and useful results have been obtained in the area of queueing networks. It has been shown that the queueing network model is a powerful tool in computer perfonnance analysis. In this paper we report on some of the difficulties we met in a perfonnance study for the upgrading of the VAX-cluster at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Our conclusion has to be that there are sufficiently many queueing network models and techniques for analyzing them, but that for accurate perfonnance predictions the behaviour of memory contention is not well understood
The analysis of I/O configurations
This paper deals with the problem of modelling CPU-disk communication. A CPU-disk system is considered as a closed network of waiting lines. Based on the ideas of the mean value analysis a recursive scheme is developed to approximate the major performance characteristics. The accuracy of the model is shown in some examples. Some attention is given to rules of thumb which are used in the performance evaluation of computer systems

Decision support system for container terminal planning
In this paper we describe a decision support system for capacity planning of container terminals. Typical elements of a container terminal are a quay, cranes,a stack yard and trucks for transport of containers between the quay and the stack yard and vice versa. For each of these elements we can devise models to describe the performance. The decision support system combined a heuristic analysis of these models to a global model to study the interaction between the elements of a container terminal
